Puppies have names

The puppies now have names!  I like to include the new families in the choosing of their pup's name - so sometimes the names take a while to be agreed as we wait for the pups to grow and each family to choose, then there are the tense days waiting to see if the KC will approve them, so here they are "officially".

 Friday - aka Elbereth Matti

Matti is a traditional boy's name - and very apt at Matti Takkanen has been very big influence on my breeding programme!

 Saturday - aka Elbereth Helmi 

Helmi means pearl, and she will be a little pearl in the Jones household where she is staying with mum Tiia

 Sunday - aka Elbereth Pikkuinen

Or Pikku for short - Pikkuinen means little one - and she has gone to live with uncle Teemu, Tiia's brother

 All the puppies are now settled in their new homes, we know they will bring great joy.

Four week update

The pups are now really starting to look like puppies and activity levels are increasing, they are now tucking into four bowls of food a day and are loving the running around the garden!  Tiia is starting to feel less inclined to suckle them,  given they have sharp teeth you can hardly blame her! 

Four weeks sees the visitors arriving, before then I prefer mother and babies to be left alone with minimal visitors, partly as some bitches can get stressed with strangers and of course more visitors = increased risk of illness. By four weeks the pups are much more robust - and the mum is usually starting to be more accepting of the attention their pups receive.

But she does not like to be away from them, so keeps a watchful eye on their playtimes.  Funny how she is keen to help clean up their food bowls though.

The New Babies

Well I have been rather naughty at not updating the blog with the news of Tiia's new litter, of five all born easily on 2/8/13, two girls and three boys, to proud dad, Multi Ch Elbereth Matkamies ShCM.

The puppies were whelped by Jayne, son Elliot and friend Linda, and as the puppies arrived they were christened consecutive days of the week, starting with Friday - the day they were all actually born!

Friday  (Black tri ♂)
Friday is a very striking boy - with lots of white markings, his tan face marking are really developing.

Saturday (wolf sable ♀)

Saturday is the only wolf sable puppy in the litter, and is a girl who has stolen Jayne's heart so will be staying with mum Tiia.  She looks very similar in markings to her dad, maybe a little darker in her base colour.

Sunday (Black tri ♀)
Sunday is the second girl, who looks most like her mum, darker in colouring but with very large tan cheeks developing.  

Monday (Black tri ♂)
Monday is the 4th born and heaviest puppy, lots of tan developing to make him a striking boy.

Tuesday (Black tri ♂)
The last born is another boy, similarly marked to Monday but with a noticeable while left front leg, and white tips on all feet.

Exciting news today - Elbereth Tiia is in whelp to E Matkamies and puppies due possibly around 1st August.  Tiia is a lovely girl, from an exciting mating of E Taru at Pavoskas to Multi Ch Lumiturpa Otso and Matka's first litter are already showing great promise in the show ring and at home as loveable companions.

Tiia has only been shown lightly but has many wins including RBB at the Southern Finnish Lapphund Society shows in 2011 and 2012.

Week 1

The Taru x Otso babes are 1 week old now, pictures and weights below, a special litter, made in England when Otso was visiting for Crufts and Taru obliged by being in season at the right time!

Bitch 1 is still quite dark facially but has white feet and the big white tip on her tail, have pictured each pup in repose on Phillip's bean bag so you can see their white chests and feet, she weighs 750g










Bitch 2 - the first two girls could almost be twins except the for white tip on tail they have almost same markings, weight 750g






















Dog Pup - is really starting to show lots of paler face markings and on legs, he continues to lead the weights being 800g this week.























Bitch 3 - like her brother is really starting to develop bright markings, she is slightly smaller than others at 600g, having been smallest born.
