Crufts & WELKS shows

I have just been so busy that have neglected the blog, so time for a quick update....

First a look back to Crufts where I had the honour to judge Pyrenean Mtn Dogs - and found my BOB in the Swedish dog, Vi'skaly's Harlem Shake (Vi'skaly's Stage Diver x Vi'skaly's Poppy Pinot), who then went onto Group 2.  A stunning boy with such a lovely head and expression.

Sam Moore then handled Phillip's Multi Champion Elbereth Matkamies to DCC & BOB under Sue Dunger, and Emma Bird handled Multi Ch Elbereth Kia Joins Bridus to BCC.  There were also big wins for Matka's daughter's Elbereth Pelinainen and Elbereth Suvituuli.  Lovely to have these two super dogs appreciated by Sue who introduced the breed to the UK.

At WELKs Championship show the breed did not have CCs, but Matkamies took BOB under Mrs Rose Marie Emery from Sweden, and he then went onto his first group placing in UK - G4 under Mrs Lynn Salt

I haven't yet introduced the new edition to our family, Tilkkuturkin Hallantuoma to Elbereth - Matka's daughter to Fin Ch Tilkkuturkin Bunahilkka

Who with the rest of the Elbereth family had an amazing day at Birmingham National;  first Matka won his 11th CC under Rodney Oldham, then baby Halla won her first ever puppy class, Pelinainen won Junior and Post graduate to be followed by their older half sister, Suvitulli winning limit.  Onto open where Judi Cross won the BCC and BOB with Ch Elbereth Marja (Int & Fin Ch Lecibsin Hapmi x Elbereth Satu), an amazing day ending with 6 month old Halla winning BPIB.

Matka and Kia also popped back to Ireland to gain the final point for their Irish titles and a little trip after Birmingham to Germany to add more points towards their German titles :)

Another Catch Up!

Been a very busy start to the year and lots of lovely news and results to share  - its such a lot of fun when you have a new litter out - and they are doing so well for their owners.  Most of the shows now seem to involve an overnight stay with extended lappy family, a fun day out at the show, and impromptu picnic/parties with nibbles and cava/fizz!  Everyone bringing something to share, and whether we are celebrating or commiserating (not much of the latter!!) we all have a lot of fun.

At the start of May I had been invited to judge the Swedish Club's special anniversary show - and was over the moon with an entry of 105 dogs, though sadly under FCI rules judges are limited to 80 dogs, so with puppies transferred to another judge I was left with 85, and had special permission to judge these.  It was a lovely day, and the hospitality was super.  Best Lapphund and BIS was Multi Ch Skraedderbakken's Amalie, with BOS to Multi Ch Lapinlumon Elämänilo.  The Dog CAC was Lecibsin Tomi and bitch CAC was Maljalkes Onni.

Onto Scotland where CCs were on offer and Ernie Patterson was judging, his BOB was Mult Ch Elbereth Matkamies (8th CC) and then we were over the moon to see Judi Cross show Elbereth Marja to her third CC and her UK title.  The third Elbereth Champion in the breed (there are only two others!).

Southern Cos is a very popular show for exhibitors with a Finnish judge and a single CC/res CC on offer.  Reino Korpela judged the lapphunds, and Elbereth Matkamies was reserve best male (a great result considering he is rather out of coat) and Shelley Cooper won Best bitch and the res CC with Elbereth Apina, looking so good.  It was a last puppy show for the Matka x Penikka puppies, so delighted that E Miskakarhu and E Suvi Tuuli did the double again with Miska taking BP overall.  What made the day super special was the whole litter of EIGHT came to the show and exhibited - doubt that has happened many times in any breed such a large litter in its entirety at the show, and I have to say I was as proud as punch as they are all gorgeous.

Since her first birthday Tuuli has gone on to bigger and better awards, with Best Bitch at Blackpool under Celia Vines, where E Mikko was BOB, and RBB at Windsor to her mum, the lovely E Penikka.

FLC of GB Championship Show

The 6th April saw the FLC of GB Championship show - the first Crufts qualifying show for Matka x Penikka's pups so we were excited to see them out under Finnish specialist Matti Tuominen.  What a lovely day, with some super results and the babies did us proud.
E Hunajakarhu

In puppy dog E Miskakarhu & E Hunajakarhu made their mark, with a 1st and 3rd respectively - thus both qualifying for Crufts 2014,  with Miska going onto win Novice dog too.  His critique from the judge was "Excellent type and proportions, beautiful strong masculine head and beautiful expression, good bone and well angulated, good body and good top line.  Good mover and well presented."
E Hunajakarhu added a 2nd in Junior, and the comments were "Excellent type, good proportions with good bones, lovely masculine head with good expression, well angulated, not yet in full coat.  Good mover and well presented."

Then Kay & Charlie's  Elbereth Myrsky qualified from Yearling, which is lovely as he has very busy weekends so doesn't get to many shows.

Dog CC - Multi Ch Elbereth Matkamies ShCM
The open dog and good citizen class were won by Matkamies, who was then awarded his seventh CC.  His critique read, "Excellent type, good proportions, pleasing head and expression, good neck, top line and tail set, excellent coat quality, well angulated and moves well, showing himself very well."

Then it was time for the girls to do their bit, with puppies E Suvituuli and E Kaikki Meille Allforus in the puppy bitch class.  With Tuuli taking the win just ahead of her sister, Tuuli's report was "Lovely puppy of excellent type, excellent proportions,

E Suvituuli
very promising head and expression, excellent tail set and angulation, moves very well.  Very promising."
and for Kaikki, "
Very nice puppy with excellent head, good neck and top line, well sprung ribs, would like to see better bone, well angulated and moves well.  These two girls also secured further placings in junior/novice.

With Miska & Tuuli taking Best puppy dog and bitch respectively - it meant the finale was the litter mates challenging each other for Best Puppy in Show, with the lad, Miska taking the award of BPIS.

Three in a Row

What a great day we had at Bournemouth Ch Show, Norppa made it THREE BOBs in a row, under judge Jeff Horswell. Two years ago at this show Norppa was BP and his Dad Int/Fin Ch Lecibsin Hapi was BOB under Finnish Judge Hans Lehtinen, so a lovely show for Norppa. Kaisa won her 5th Best Puppy, which puts her top puppy in breed at present, then if that was not enough she won Res BB, 2 days short of her 1st birthday.

With both Norppa and Kaisa due to represent the breed in their groups we were grateful to Sam Moore for stepping in and handling a noisy Kaisa in the puppy group. Kaisa obviously got herself noticed, and won Puppy Group 2!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE

Only one other lappy has placed in a puppy group at a Ch show to my knowledge at that was big half bro Keskiyö who won PG4 at W&P Wales. So Kaisa is first bitch to get a Puppy group placing at a Ch show and the highest placed puppy in a Ch Show group, what a way to complete her puppy career.
